As the former head of cooking design
with household appliance company Whirlpool, Axel knows a thing
or two about appliances.
He joined the company in August 2001, bringing a design background
to the Appliance Studio's work in human/computer interaction and
elsewhere. He now leads much of the company's work in design – graphic,
industrial, and interaction.
Axel was previously with Ideo's Boston office, where
he worked on a wide variety of industrial design projects for many
prestigious clients. His work won several awards, and has been
featured in the New York Times, Time Magazine and Businessweek.
Axel has studied art and design in Vienna,
California, and Rhode Island. He has taught at MIT and assisted
at Harvard Business School. As well as English, he is fluent
in German and Swedish, proficient in Italian, and competent in
Spanish.
