Marcel joined the company in May 2000. He is one of the Appliance Studio's most experienced software engineers, regularly taking the lead role in software development projects.

Marcel previously worked at the infamous Boo.com where he set up various parts of the database infrastructure. He was particularly involved in the process of refreshing the on-line product base for this e-commerce retailer. He also learnt a lot about hi- tech start-ups...

Prior to this Marcel was a data migration expert for Oracle databases. He developed data migration and manipulation tools for the RAC's customer information database and built a billing information database for mobile telecommunication operator Libertel in the Netherlands.

Marcel started his career at HP Labs in January 1994, investigating capacity modelling of GSM networks. He later switched to investigating the use of wireless appliances in medical information systems, concentrating on the client and network infrastructure.

Marcel has a master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Twente in Enschede, the Netherlands.

Marcel's interests are reading, DIY and on-line learning. He has a young daughter and a baby son.
